How We Work with Large and Multi-Campus Churches

A large church's insurance is a program that has to be managed all year, not a policy bought once a year. Here's how we run it.

Review

Policies, declarations, schedule of values, loss runs, leases and contracts.

The first 90 days

Getting started

Valuation and schedule clean-up

Every building, campus and lease scheduled correctly at replacement cost.

Benchmark

Limits, structure and cost compared with comparable churches; findings in writing.

Walkthrough

We meet with your executive pastor, business administrator or board to explain the findings.

Market strategy, done in the right order

When a program goes to market, the first broker to submit to a carrier controls that carrier for the term. We plan the approach with you so the market isn’t blocked, assemble a complete submission, and present options side by side.

Why the incumbent quoting first blocks the market

Market strategy

The annual service calendar

Church carriers want complete submissions 30 to 60 days before the effective date. Working backward, the useful window opens about four months out.

120 days before renewal Submission packet assembled; schedule of values updated

90–60 days Markets approached; renewal terms negotiated

30 days Proposal walkthrough with leadership; binding

Mid-year Check-in on new buildings, programs, staff and vehicles

As needed Certificates, contracts, events, leases, claims

The submission pack

Whatever you have is a good start. A complete pack gets the best number from underwriters.

What belongs in a submission packet

  • Declarations pages Current dec pages for every line.

  • Loss runs Three to five years of carrier-produced loss runs.

  • Statement of values Updated by building.

  • Payroll by class Clergy, teachers, childcare, facilities and office staff.

  • Programs School, preschool, camps, athletics, and outside groups using your buildings.

  • Vehicles A list of every vehicle.
