Church Risk Assessment: A Free Coverage Review for Your Church
Find out where your church is protected, where the gaps are, and what to do about it.
Most Churches Are Underinsured. They Just Don’t Know It Yet.
A church risk assessment identifies coverage gaps, unprotected liabilities, and opportunities to strengthen your ministry’s financial protection before an incident forces the conversation. This is not a sales pitch. It’s a diagnostic tool designed to give you clarity about where your church stands.
We developed this assessment because most churches we talk to have never had their insurance program reviewed by someone who specializes in church risk. They have a policy. They pay the premium. But they have no idea whether their coverage actually matches how their church operates today.
What We Evaluate
Coverage Review
We review every active policy, endorsement, and exclusion. Most churches carry general liability and property coverage but have significant gaps in areas like employment practices liability, cyber liability, abuse and molestation coverage, hired and non-owned auto, and directors and officers insurance. We identify exactly what is covered and what is not.
Property Valuation Check
We compare your insured property values against current replacement cost estimates. Churches in Massachusetts are frequently underinsured by 20 to 40 percent due to rising construction costs. This single check can prevent a devastating shortfall after a major property loss.
Operational Risk Scan
We evaluate your key operational risk areas including volunteer screening and training, facility safety and maintenance, employment practices and HR documentation, financial controls and oversight, and governance structure and bylaws. These operational factors directly affect both your risk level and your insurability.
Benchmark Comparison
We compare your coverage structure and premiums against similar churches in your region, size range, and denomination. This shows whether you are overpaying, underinsured, or well-positioned relative to comparable congregations.
How the Assessment Works
Step 1 — Initial Conversation: Two options. Just send us your current policy or schedule a 15-minute call to understand your church, its ministries, staffing, facilities, and current insurance situation.
Step 2 — Document Review: We review your current policies, declarations pages, and any recent claims history.
Step 3 — Assessment Report: You receive a written report with findings, risk ratings by category, and specific recommendations for each area we evaluate.
Step 4 — Review Call: We walk through the report together, answer your questions, and discuss your options. No obligation. No pressure. No sales pitch.
Who This Assessment Is For
This assessment is designed for medium and large churches in Massachusetts. It is especially valuable if your church has any of the following characteristics:
Annual budget over $500,000
More than 200 regular attendees
Multiple paid staff members
Children’s or youth ministry programs
A school, daycare, or after-school program
Multi-campus or satellite location operations
Recent or planned building projects
Leadership transitions or rapid growth
If you’re not sure whether your church qualifies, reach out. The initial conversation takes 15 minutes and will tell us both whether a full assessment makes sense.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Church Risk Assessment
Is the risk assessment really free?
Yes. There is no cost and no obligation. We provide the assessment because it gives us a chance to demonstrate our expertise and build a relationship with churches we may work with in the future. If you choose to work with us afterward, great. If not, you still walk away with valuable information about your church’s risk position.
How long does the process take?
From initial conversation to final report, typically two to three weeks. The 15-minute intro call and 30-minute review call are the only time commitments on your end. We handle the analysis.
Will you try to sell us insurance during the assessment?
The assessment is purely diagnostic. If we identify gaps or savings opportunities, we will explain your options clearly. But the decision to make changes is always yours, and many churches use the report simply as an internal planning tool with no changes to their insurance program.
What information do we need to provide?
Current insurance declarations pages (your agent or carrier can provide these), basic information about your church size, ministries, staffing, and facilities. We handle the rest of the research and analysis.
Can you help churches outside Massachusetts?
Our primary focus is serving Massachusetts churches. However, we can and do provide general risk assessment guidance for churches anywhere in the US. Insurance placement for churches outside Massachusetts is also possible and we insure organizations throughout the US.
